Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd Receives Final FDA Approval of Nabumetone 500 mg 180 Days Market Exclusivity Under Paragraph IV

Jerusalem, Israel, May 31, 2000 - Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq: TEVA) announced today that it has received from the US FDA final approval to manufacture and market Nabumetone 500 mg Tablets.

Nabumetone is the generic version of the SmithKline Beecham drug Relafen® for the treatment of acute and chronic osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. 1999 US sales of the branded product were approximately $220 million.

As the first to file a Paragraph IV certification with respect to this product under the Waxman-Hatch Act, Teva will have 180 days of market exclusivity.

A patent infringement case relating to this product is currently pending in a US Federal District Court in Massachusetts. Teva awaits the outcome of this case prior to making a decision on its launch of the product.
